These scammers often visit homes claiming to work for water utilities, driveway paving, roofing companies and tree trimming. It is important to remember that you should not open your door to solicitors or accept work from unlicensed contractors. Should someone approach you claiming they can provide home repair service or need to check your utilities, call the Coral Springs Police non-emergency number 954-344-1800. Police will respond to ensure the person is a legitimate business and if they are soliciting illegally, they will be cited. Make sure you and your loved ones stay safe and aware!

Don’t Forget Your Four-Legged Friends When Evacuating!

September 5th, 2017

With the most recent hurricane forecasts, Hurricane Irma, predicting landfall in South Florida, it is important to have a plan to evacuate if necessary. If you are in an evacuation zone and are a pet owner, you may find an issue with bringing them to a general population shelter, as they only allow service animals. If you own pets, you are advised to bring them to the pet friendly shelter (which is not a general population shelter). We encourage those that have pets to pre-register their animals with the shelter in case of emergency and you need to leave your homes. The pre-registration is required and is something that you may not be able to do on the go, so be prepared!

The closest pet friendly shelter is in Tamarac at the Millennium Middle School located at 5803 NW 94th Avenue. Tamarac, FL 33321. This shelter will allow all Broward residents and their registered pets to seek shelter. In order to register, please call the Humane Society at 954-989-3977. Registration Opens for Annual 5k Remembrance Run/Walk

August 21st, 2017

Annually, the City of Coral Springs remembers the victims and honors the heroes of September 11th, 2001. This year’s Remembrance 5k Run/Walk will be held on Saturday, September 9th at 7 a.m with the starting line at the Northwest Regional Library at 3151 University Drive. It is a family friendly event and teams are encouraged to register as groups or teams as awards will be given.

Awards will be given to the top three overall male and female, as well as the top three in the age-appropriate categories. Team awards will also be given out to the top fire rescue department, law enforcement department, EMT paramedic department, and top club. All finishers will receive medals and t-shirts for their participation. Registration costs are as follows: $25 for Adults/$15 for Students 19 & under/$20 for Emergency Service Personnel. Registration fees will increase as the race gets closer, so register for your spot today!

Back To School Supplies Drive!

Assist the City of Coral Springs with providing the children of our community with a great start to a new school year by making a donation of school supplies.  As back to school shopping begins to get back underway, some children will head back to the classrooms without much-needed, basic school supplies. The City is collecting these supplies for economically disadvantaged children in the community starting on July 18th.
This drive will run from the 18th of July until August 15th.  Supplies that will be accepted include: markers, erasers, glue sticks, crayons, highlighters, binders, pencils, folders, pens, index cards, rulers, notebooks, and more. Please stop by and make a donation of any size (Cash donations are also accepted toward supplies and uniforms). Also, remember that the weekend of August 4-6th is Tax Free for all schools supplies. So come on down and continue to make Coral Springs a better place to live for people of all ages.

Rainy Season is Mosquito Season!

Everyone knows that mosquitoes are both annoying and a nuisance to any home. They can also carry serious diseases such encephalitis, yellow fever, dengue, and malaria. There are many ways to prevent mosquitoes from lingering around your home, so in order to protect yourself and your neighbors, you can take these precautions.

–       Repair leaky pipes and outside faucets

–       Move house drain hoses frequently

–       Install screens on rain barrels

–       Empty water from boats.

–       Clean clogged roof gutters

–       Empty watering areas of pets daily

–       Change and clean water in bird baths weekly

–       Stock fish pools or lily ponds with minors. These fish eat mosquito larvae.

–       & many more!

Remember, mosquitoes need stagnant water to lay their eggs where they hatch in a day or two. So draining and changing water frequently will prevent these eggs from hatching or being laid in the first place. Happy Independence Day!

The summer is a great time to be a resident of Coral Springs and this Fourth of July is going to be a highlight of the year! Join the City’s annual Fourth of July celebration at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 4th at Mullins Park.

We encourage the community to celebrate the holiday safely by enjoying a fireworks display set to being at around 9 p.m. in the park. The event as always will be free to enter with bounce houses and live music. There will be some small fees for kid’s craft activities, food, and refreshments. If you will be driving, there is a $3 parking fee at the Coral Springs Gymnasium, Mullins Park, and the Center for the Arts. For safety reasons, personal fireworks, pets, and alcoholic beverages are strictly prohibited and security will be enforcing these rules. All bags brought into the event are subject to search for this reason.  Mullins Park is located at 10000 Ben Geiger Drive and for more information please call 954-345-2200.
