Hurricane Season is Here – Are You Prepared?

Hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30, and it is important to always have a family plan and supplies on hand in case of a storm. Whether you are a resident or a business, register online for the Coral Springs Police Department’s free CodeRED service to stay informed on the latest hurricane information before, during and after a storm, as well as tornado warnings, boil water alerts, evacuation orders, missing people and local criminal activity. One thing you should prepare is a first aid kit, should you or a family member suffer an injury during a storm (and a first aid kit is always good to have on hand for all emergencies!). Here are some items to include in your kit:

  • Two pairs of Latex or other sterile gloves if you are allergic to Latex
  • Sterile dressings to stop bleeding
  • Cleansing agent/soap and antibiotic towelettes
  • Antibiotic ointment
  • Burn ointment
  • Adhesive bandages in a variety of sizes
  • Eye wash solution to flush the eyes or as general decontaminant
  • Thermometer
  • Prescription medications you take every day such as insulin, heart medicine and asthma inhalers. You should periodically rotate medicines to account for expiration dates.
  • Prescribed medical supplies such as glucose and blood pressure monitoring equipment and supplies
  • Aspirin or non-aspirin pain reliever
  • Anti-diarrhea medication
  • Antacid
  • Laxative
  • Scissors
  • Tweezers
  • Tube of petroleum jelly or other lubricant
