Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is breast cancer awareness month, which is an annual campaign to increase awareness of the disease. The main objective of this month is to remind everyone to take the steps to have a plan to detect the disease in its early stages and encourage others to do the same. Every year in support of Breast Cancer Awareness the Coral Springs Professional Firefighters Benevolent Association hosts a Spaghetti Dinner. The Fire Department members also wear special uniforms throughout the month of October to raise awareness. The uniform is in support of the community and to any person affected by this disease.

“Pink represents hope for all forms of cancer. This is a way to bring the community together and raise awareness of not only breast cancer, but all form of cancer,” Lieutenant Michael Farmer stated.

The “Pinktober” Spaghetti Dinner will be on Saturday, October 18 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Station 80, 2825 Coral Springs Drive. This event is open to the public and for a $5 donation, residents will receive a plate of pasta prepared by firefighters, along with salad, bread and a beverage. They will also be selling t-shirts and the donations and proceeds from the sales will benefit the Coral Springs Firefighters Benevolent Association and the American Cancer Society.
