Complete Guide to Moving to South Florida During the Winter

Posted on January 12, 2023 by Great Florida Homes

If you’re getting ready to move this winter there are a few things you should be prepared for. Moving to South Florida in the winter is a lot easier than moving to other parts of the country, but there are still a few things to be aware of.

Here are some tips to help make moving to South Florida during the winter a lot easier.

Don’t Worry About the Weather

A lot of people move to South Florida to take advantage of the wonderful weather here. Winter is no exception – it isn’t your typical winter! It is usually still warm, in the 60s-70s, with the occasional “cold front.” There are some chilly days in the high 40s and 50s, but these are rare. And, of course, we get rain sometimes in the winter too. Overall, you can expect the weather to be mild.

Make Sure You Still Pack the Sunscreen and Gatorade

Winter might not be when you think you need sunscreen or hydration aids like Gatorade, but that isn’t necessarily true in South Florida!

Sunscreen is a year-round necessity here. Gatorade or other electrolyte beverages are a good idea for any move, but they’re especially important if you’re moving here since it might be pretty warm when you’re moving.

Look Up the Brightest Hours of the Day

Moving during the brightest part of the day will help keep your energy and mood up, even if you do have to put on sunglasses while you’re bringing everything inside. Keep an eye on the time and try to arrive just before it gets brightest, and finish before the sun starts setting in the evening.

Set Hydration Reminders If You’re Coming from a Dry Climate

If you’re moving from somewhere that isn’t as humid as South Florida, it can be easy to forget to drink because the moisture in the air will reduce your sense of thirst.

But, letting yourself get dehydrated is a recipe for a bad mood. So, set alarms on your phone every hour or so to pause for a minute, get something to drink, and check on how you’re feeling before you keep going.
