South Florida is full of beautiful destinations, exciting venues, and dream homes for every lifestyle. But that doesn’t mean that everything is going to magically fall into place when you move here. Especially if you’re coming from a different part of the country, it’s important to think about what kinds of things you’ll need in your new South Florida home that you didn’t need in your previous home.
So, to make your job a little easier, here are some of the things you’ll want to buy ahead of time or get as soon as you can after moving.
This isn’t truly everything you might need to get once you move to Florida, but it’s a good place to start. Of course, you’ll also want to pick up your favorite Florida-themed memorabilia once you get here and have a chance to start exploring everything Florida has to offer.
There are plenty of places where you can get by without a rain jacket, but South Florida isn’t one of them.
Rain is relatively common here, but you won’t want a heavier coat most of the time. The temperature is likely to stay warm outside, even in the rain, so the lightness of a rain jacket will help keep you comfortable. You should try to have one or two of these lightweight coats available for everyone in the family.
A lot of people move to South Florida for the beautiful weather, but they don’t often anticipate the high humidity that’s common here.
A dehumidifier can work with your home’s AC system to keep your home comfortable, and to keep your lungs happy!
Of course, if you don’t have an AC system in your home, or need an upgraded system, having a good dehumidifier can help in the meantime.
You won’t want just any old umbrella for living in South Florida. Instead, you’ll want to get a high-quality, lightweight umbrella designed to be carried around a lot of the time.
Collapsible umbrellas are great, but make sure you read the reviews and get a durable option. Otherwise, you’ll probably need to replace it sooner than you expect.
Staying hydrated is incredibly important here, especially if you’re on the go seeing all that South Florida has to offer. Getting a few sturdy high-capacity water bottles, especially for during the move and while you’re still adjusting to the weather, will help you feel better and do more.
There is a ton of things to do in South Florida, and you won’t want to miss out on the fun experiences in your new home. So be prepared ahead of time with a large bag or backpack that can hold your water bottles, some sunscreen, and snacks for a day on the go!
